New IBM technology announced
From PRNewswire
IBM is addressing the challenge of today’s business leaders to deliver greater return on their IT investments with new versions of DB2 and InfoSphere Warehouse software.
Several clients are already benefiting from this new technology. For example: Douglas Holding AG, the German-based specialty retailer of perfumes and fashion accessories uses DB2 to manage the sales records for its 1,800 European shops. The retailer uses an XML application as a bridge between store cash registers and its data warehouse. In testing the new version of DB2 with the application, the retailer is already seeing improved accuracy of sales records giving them a greater visibility into customer buying habits, helping them improve overall business performance.
Self Certification of mobile applications
From Thomas Net
DeviceAnywhere(TM), the global leader in end-to-end mobile application testing and development services, today announced the release of a revolutionary new self-certification technology called DeviceAnywhere Proof Center(TM).
As more app stores are created, and as open mobile development becomes increasingly significant, certification and testing remain the greatest barriers to realizing revenues quickly from mobile application development. Now with the launch of DeviceAnywhere Proof Center(TM) self-certification system, built on top of DeviceAnywhere’s mobile testing platform, those two barriers have been pulled down for developers.
Testing and failure
From Silicon India
Most assumptions were then tested in isolation for its validity under ’standard test conditions’. Unfortunately, those early successes gave a false illusion that everything was fine, even though several of the chinks in the armor were not fully exposed. Absence of ‘gentle failures’ early in the project lifecycle ensured that the team thought they were on rock-solid footing.
However, in reality, we could never fully guarantee that, especially when those early cycles were done with the intent to make something work and not make something fail ! Imagine you were testing a tool to detect landmines. To do acceptance testing of the equipment, you operate it under ’specified test conditions’ and accept it. However, the enemy won’t lay mines under those very standard test conditions! Chances are extremely high that enemy’s plan will fail your equipment.
ETSI test tool agreement
From Lightwave
Under the terms of the commercial agreement (the first between ETSI and a Chinese client), ETSI’s Interopolis service will assist CATR (part of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology) in implementing a TTCN-3 conformance test tool capable of executing test suites for evolving communications networks. TTCN-3 is the Testing and Test Control Notation, a programming language for writing tests that has been developed by ETSI.
The standardised test suites, which are currently being developed by ETSI, concern the use of the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and Session Description Protocol (SDP) within IMS, the IP Multimedia Sub-system, an IP-based technology now being widely adopted as the core element in fixed and mobile communications and broadcast networks.
Performance testing open source
If you are looking for an interesting video on performance testing covering the many different flavours of performance testing and monitoring (such as scalability testing, stress testing or availability testing) then you could try this Google video.
In particular, it looks at open source performance testing tools such as JMeter.
HP QTP and QC License Notice
FromTrading Markets
This is a sources sought notice and not a request for quotations. The purpose of this announcement is to determine if there are potential qualified Service Disabled Veteran Owned, HubZone, or other Small Businesses who can furnish and deliver the software listed below. The Bureau of the Public Debt’s (BPD) Business Technology Division (BTD) has a need to purchase HP’s QTP and QC Software Licenses and Maintenance for the purpose of performing functional testing on multiple instances of their Administrative Resource Center ’s (ARC) applications.
QTP is currently a bureau Defacto Standard software used specifically for functional testing at BPD which has already been base tested and is determined to be compatible with BPD systems and meets the approval of BPD.
QC is a module that works in conjunction with QTP.
New testing tool for vehicles
From PRNewswire
Diversified Technical Systems, Inc. (DTS), a leader in ruggedized data recorders for high performance testing and evaluation applications, announced the introduction of a breakthrough sensor package, the DTS 6DX.
The DTS 6DX is ideal for test and monitoring needs of vehicles, such as crash impacts, rollover, suspension and ride and handling, as well as other high speed, harsh environment applications such as product testing of sports equipment, off-road and construction vehicles, motorcycles, marine, motorsports and aerospace.
HP launches application security solutions
From Sys-con
New offerings include:
- HP Assessment Management Platform 8.0 – helps customers through its distributed, scalable web application security testing platform.
- HP WebInspect 8.0 – helps customers thoroughly analyse complex web applications. This new release delivers fast, accurate security testing capabilities for web applications, including those built on emerging Web 2.0 technologies.
HP Assessment Management Platform 8.0 software helps customers set up a Center of Excellence (CoE) for application security. In a CoE model, a small team of security experts helps analyse the results of security tests that are implemented by people that may not have security expertise.
By using this model for testing applications for security vulnerabilities within existing development, quality assurance and operations processes, organizations can increase security coverage across the enterprise at minimal cost.
IPTV performance testing
From TMC.net
A solution integrator should at the project’s outset help the operator understand network requirements for supporting new IPTV services. IPTV makes for considerable capacity and infrastructure demands, which if unmet undercut the customer’s quality of experience. Solution integrators and operators need to learn upfront whether the network is robust enough to keep delays, freezes and other performance glitches from occurring. Flagging load and performance testing and measurement upfront is thus essential. Because this is very difficult to execute in the field, it is advisable to perform network load and performance testing in a protected lab environment. This allows references to be developed that can be compared to the field situation.
Interactive functional testing software
From EE Times
Agilent Technologies Inc. has introduced new Interactive Functional Test (IFT) software for its 8960 Series 10 (E5515C) Wireless Communications Test Set. Expanding on the functional testing capability of this test set, the IFT software provides an automated and simplified interface for realistically testing “user experience” by stress testing cellular mobile devices in real-world network scenarios. By allowing earlier identification of design issues and reducing time to market, this software is well suited for UMTS mobile phone/device developers conducting functional validation, as well as service providers performing acceptance testing.
Agilent’s N5970A IFT software provides an automated solution for functional test, including parallel test execution, reducing the time it takes to validate a design and allowing more testing in a given release cycle. It can simultaneously test call processing, ftp and SMS—for example, while monitoring current drain and changing the RF power to the phone—to provide a real network test. This solution brings more realistic testing into the design cycle earlier, enabling the user to more easily modify the design.
