Compuware has now joined IBM and HP in including static analysis of security breaches in its software testing tools. DevPartner Studio 9.0 adds checking of 200 security rules borrowed from a previous Compuware offering aimed at security specialists. More than simply a feature/function addition, Compuware’s move is in line with trends for software developers to assume more care over security. Compuware is obviously not the first to take this strategy, but it is using its ties as Visual Studio Team System partner to take the lead in the .NET installed base.

The latest edition of DevPartner 9.0, Compuware’s software QA suite, has expanded the scope of its static defect analysis capabilities to encompass security vulnerabilities. That encompasses conditions such as SQL injection, cross-site scripting, buffer overflows, URL redirections and improper use of P/Invoke .NET commands that call machine or native code.
