Spike Testing

Posted in Load testing by testing in London on April 6, 2011

Spike testing is used in load and performance testing. These tests are normally based on real world or projected work loads with focus on extreme load/performance conditions. Provides a good indicator if the system can handle unexpected volumes of users/connections and what the existing limitations are based upon current operational environment. “

From Projectmanagementitoolbox

Spike testing is where operations are co-ordinated at significant points to highlight errors which occur only during concurrent usage.

From Load test terms

Spike testing, as the name suggests is done by spiking the number of users and understanding the behavior of the application; whether performance will suffer, the application will fail, or it will be able to handle dramatic changes in load.
